Battle Sight Challenge Trophy

 

 

General Outline

 

Military rifles in general are equipped with combination sights. The main sight fully adjustable enabling the rifle to be zeroed to the individual shooter. The second sight was called the battle sight and factory set to 300 yards. Its use was for in the event of a surprise attack the serviceman/woman was able to quickly engage the enemy without the need to set his/her sights.

 

The Aim Of The Competition

 

The aim of this competition is to test the ability of the individuals to read the general weather conditions and differing aiming points in order to gain the maximum score.

 

Competition Rules

 

  1. The event will be held on a gallery range of the clubs choosing.
  2. The event is open to all rifles and carbines with any metal sights that can be set to 300 yards/metres. (Once set, they must not be adjusted)
  3. Other rifles with optical sights may take part but are not eligible for prizes.
  4. Slings may be used, but should remain attached at all times.
  5. Freestyle allows for arms resting on (sand)bags, but no bipods. 
  6. All timed target exposures are to be controlled from the butts.  
  7. All Scoring will take place in the butts.  
  8. No competitor will be informed of his/her score until the end of their detail.  
  9. Infringements of safety will result in disqualification from the competition.  
  10. Prior to the start of each detail the Range Controlling Officer (RCO) or RCOs assistants will check and confirm that the individual competitors sights are set to 300 yards/metres.  
  11. Range discipline will be maintained at all times under the direct control of the RCO.  
  12. Targets will be ‘Wessex 300M’ or Service variant, with full frame scoring 2, 3, 4, 5, V Bull. 
  13. In the event of additional rounds found on a competitors target the highest scoring round will be thrown out.  
  14. The decision of the Match Director is final.
  15. Sighters will be individually marked back, and are not convertible.   
  16. Total maximum score possible is 250 (50v).

 

 

 

Course Of Fire - 100 Metres

 

Sighting Shots

 

With the competitors sights set at 300, a maximum of 3 sighting shots may be taken over a period of 3 minutes, On the command watch and shoot the RCO will notify the butts the detail is ready. Butt party leader will give the command “targets up”, after 3 minutes the command targets down will be given. Sighters to be marked back.

 

Discipline 1 

 

In The Standing position the command with ten rounds load and make ready will be given. When the line is ready the RCO tell the detail to watch and shoot, he will then notify the butts the detail is ready. Butt party leader will give the command “targets up”. 10 aimed shots are to be taken on the individuals target, after 1 minute the command targets down will be given. (Any round not fired cannot be carried over to the next discipline). Butt party to score discipline 1

 

Discipline 2 

 

In The Kneeling position the command with ten rounds load and make ready will be given. When the line is ready the RCO tell the detail to watch and shoot, he will then notify the butts the detail is ready. Butt party leader will give the command “targets up”. 10 aimed shots are to be taken on the individuals target, after 1 minute the command targets down will be given. (Any round not fired cannot be carried over to the next discipline). Butt party to score discipline 2.

 

This concludes the detail at 100 Metre; Competitors dress back to 200 Metres

 

Course Of Fire - 200 Metres

 

Sighting Shots

 

With the competitors sights set at 300, a maximum of 3 sighting shots may be taken over a period of 3 minutes, On the command watch and shoot the RCO will notify the butts the detail is ready. Butt party leader will give the command “targets up”, after 3 minutes the command targets down will be given. Sighters to be marked back.

Course Of Fire – 300 Metres

With the competitors sights set at 300, a maximum of 4 sighting shots may be taken over a period of 4 minutes, On the command watch and shoot the RCO will notify the butts the detail is ready. Butt party leader will give the command “targets up”, after 4 minutes the command targets down will be given. Sighters to be marked back.

 

Discipline 1 

 

In Freestyle position the command with ten rounds load and make ready will be given. When the line is ready the RCO tell the detail to watch and shoot, he will then notify the butts the detail is ready. Butt party leader will give the command “targets up”. 10 aimed shots are to be taken on the individuals target, after 1 minute the command targets down will be given. (Any round not fired cannot be carried over to the next discipline). But party to score this discipline.

 

 This concludes the final detail. All scores to be passed back to RCO.
